Most of my mama's home-cooked meals were legendary and the favorite part of my day, but she took it to a whole other level on Sundays.
The smells of Santa Maria Style BBQ, Carnitas, Enchiladas, Roasts, Tortillas De Harina(flour tortillas), Chili Beans, Spanish Rice, Chicken Mole, Dreamy Chocolate Cake, Lemon Pies, and more drove me crazy for hours. I couldn't wait to taste all her yummy creations, ok, I couldn't wait to gorge myself on her insanely delicious food. And my mama loved to share her food with anyone that visited, and we often had lots of guests on Sunday evenings.
During the pandemic, I identified a few families on my street that might delight in home-cooked Sunday dinners and tried to spread some good old fashioned neighborly love. I made all my mama's favorites as well as Paella, Smoked Maple Bourbon Carnitas, Calabacitas, Peruvian Beans, Guacamole, Salsa Fresca, Heavenly Chocolate Cream Cheese Cupcakes, Peach Bourbon Bread Pudding, and Spicy Pumpkin Curry.
My dear friend Patsy Hauer contributed ridiculously delicious cookies too. It was especially hard for me to part with her chocolate chip cookies and chocolate walnut coconut bars, just saying I might have kept a few more than I should have.
My venture to spread joy to others has brought me so much happiness and purpose.
Are you spreading smiles with your food? If yes, I'd love to hear from you.
Be well!
Happy cooking!
